Her parents are Harvey Welker a Native American father and Julie Welker an African-American mother. She is the daughter of both a Native American father as well as mother who is African American. Walker attended school at Germantown Friends School located in Philadelphia's Germantown area where she graduated in 1994. She attended Harvard College, where she received a Bachelors in Arts degree. Welker is married to John Hughes of Merck Philadelphia in Philadelphia is mother to two. In 2014 they began having an affair with one other. John her husband, is 4 years younger than her.
