Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and singer whose career spanned over 40 years. London was a torch singer and was well-known for her smooth, soft vocals. She recorded more than 30 albums of jazz and pop classics from 1955 to 1969. Her recording of "Cry Me a River" the song she released on her debut album was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated in 1974 to the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her portrayal in Emergency! of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her professional career began acting as an actress as she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's acting career of 35 years began in the film industry in 1944. It included parts in the lead female in numerous westerns. She signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the beginning of her professional musical career. The album she recorded her final studio album released in the year 1969. She continued to be a hit in the role of the female main character of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), in which she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. The show was produced by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
